INTERNATIONAL WORKS

Exposing audiences to international works enables the Israeli public to get to know the work of directors, choreographers, composers and performers who are among the best in the world.

The international program includes music, dance, theatre and multi-disciplinary works, and is based on works which have become landmarks in modern culture along with works which reflect the latest in contemporary productions.

Piecing together the international program involves constant research by the festival staff based on information received from a wide network of professional colleagues and friends from Israel and abroad.

The festival team is in constant contact with artists from all over the world in order to learn more and understand better the dynamics of the performing arts industry and the new developments taking place therein, with a view to transferring this knowledge to Israeli audiences.

We are open to all ideas and suggestions. After viewing a video of the proposed production and going over all the artistic and technical aspects, we then arrange to see a live performance. Only afterwards do we decide on whether to invite the artist or company to participate in the festival.

Among the international artists who have appeared in the festival in the past are:

Maurice Béjart Bill Forsythe Alvin Ailey the Kirov Ballet Archaos La Fura del Baus Lindsay Kemp the Wooster Group Peter Brook the Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg Robert Wilson Théâtre de Complicité Piccolo Teatro di Milano Zakir Hussein Max Roach Pat Metheny Charlie Haden Wallace Roney Anne-Sophie Mutter the Guarneri Quartet Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin La Scala di Milano.

In certain instances, the festival and the international artists receive support for the tour from the cultural department of the respective artists’ embassy. It is often only due to this assistance that we are able to bring the performers here.
