"Their wild energy is the essence of gypsy music" is how the New York Times described this gypsy ensemble from Romania whose name literally translates as "band of honorable brigands". The band comprises excellent musicians who perform, to new and exciting arrangements, the best of gypsy folk music tradition passed down from generation to generation. This is a performance which spins the audience into a frenzy of rhythm, and exposes them to the mysterious traditions of a people who continue to live as wanderers even in the 21st century.

The Karbido Company

Imagine sitting around the dinner table in your house on Friday night singing Sabbath songs, drumming on the table, tapping with the cutlery, glasses and even bottles until the table is transformed into a musical instrument. The Karbido Company took this theme to the extreme and turned their table into a unique and professional musical instrument which they play in concert. The music produced is derived from well-known tunes from the four corners of the world. "Awesome, manic and witty" is how a critic who attended their concert at the Edinburgh Festival described the group. Suitable for all ages.

Israeli Ethnic Music from the 1920's onwards

with: Yisrael Borochov, jumbush & percussion Omer Avital, double bass, oud & percussion, Itamar Duari, percussion Eyal Sela, wind instruments Haya Samir, vocals & percussion Ravid Kahalani, vocals Israel Contemporary String Quartet and guest musicians

The concept "world music" only received world recognition at the end of the 20th century; but it actually constitutes the essence of the creation of Israeli culture in the Jewish community in Palestine in the early 20th century. The composers, considered to be the founders of our music tradition, such as Zeira, Wilensky, Shalem, Admon and others, were the first to combine the European music of the countries they had left with the Arabic music of the country to which they had come.
This special evening transforms the songs of yesteryears into arrangements which merit preservation over time. The mix of western and oriental musical instruments - the oud, jumbush and sumsumiya with violins, viola and double bass - in a performance by some of the leading Jewish and Arab musicians in Israel creates an evening of entirely authentic music of the modern revival of Israeli cultural tradition.

The Marcin Wasilewski Trio

The thousands of visitors at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat last year enthused over Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, and no less the trio which accompanied him, about which Stanko once said "in the entire history of Polish jazz we've never had a band like this one ". The trio is now coming to the festival with its own repertoire, most of which was composed by pianist Marcin Wasilewski.
This is an opportunity to enjoy modern European jazz performed by a group acclaimed the world over which scoffs at challenge. A joy for true jazz lovers.

Stefon Harris & Blackout

U.S.A.

סטפון האריס ולהקת Blackout

Stefon Harris, vibraphone Casey Benjamin, alto sax Marc Cary, piano Earl Travis, bass Jamire Williams, drums

"One of the most important young artists in jazz today", is how the Los Angeles Times described the vibraphonist who will be performing in Israel for the first time with his band in this year's Festival. Harris is arriving with a group of outstanding musicians including pianist Marc Cary, who has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Erykah Badu, Shirley Horn and others.
The jazz world is currently at a crossroads with the older generation making place for the younger and a wider range of influences. In Israel, people still talk about jazz greats like Kenny Barron, Wynton Marsalis, Ron Carter and others, all of whom Harris has performed with. The Festival has set its goal to expose the successful stars of the younger generation to Israeli jazz lovers.

"Harris's playing flows with exuberance, swing and his fabulous technique." Jazz Review

Once in the Galilee

Israel

פעם בגליל

Alon Olearchik, piano Din Din Aviv, percussion & vocals Barak Hanoch, guitar Avi Yifrach, bass Asher Pedi, drums Yaron Ozana, trombone Nitsan Ein-Habar, wind instruments

This year the Festival is making an exception from its policy to only stage premi?res of Israeli works, in order to provide another opportunity for those who missed out to attend the extraordinary "Once in the Galilee" concert by Alon Olearchik. The program with works all composed by Olearchik can be described as the closest thing to authentic Israeli jazz. Olearchik is one of the most esteemed Israeli musicians. He first gained fame as a member of the mythological Kaveret group, but since then has worked on scores for television and cinema, as well as composing and performing jazz, in addition to pursuing his rock career. This project is one of the best he has created.

"In 'Once in the Galilee', Olearchik succeeds to place the Galilee in an unconventional landscape. This is not another Israeli attempt to invent a local version of Tuscany or Provence, but of personal musical territory which brings Olearchik within a stone's throw of Paris or New Orleans." Haaretz
